Function of the Language Quarter

• The Language Quarter seeks to apply the techniques and tools of Freinet’s Pedagogy, even institutional pedagogy to foreign language (FL) classes.

• They organize an annual training workshop.

• They take part in one-day workshops and conferences in conjunction with the Freinet Movement.

• They take part in diffusing knowledge and tools from Freinet’s pedagogy in FL classes.

• Presently, there is a Freinet group of German professors/teachers (secondary levels) who meet once a month in Paris. A Freinet group of English professors/teachers is also being set up.

• The Language Quarter produces pedagogical tools :

- A self-correcting reading resource file for German (first and second year of study, elementary school and middle school, upper secondary school and adult education) will be published in September 1998.

- A self-correcting resource file for German grammar (second and third year of study) is currently being produced.

• The Language Quarter writes pedagogical articles and books about language classes (see publications).
